If what we want in our cities is more parking, then let’s make parks parking.

We believe cities need more parking.

The YIMBY says our cities need less parking and more of other things, like parks, bike lanes, sidewalks, and streateries. We know the YIMBY is wrong because the loss of parking is the number one objection to any urban project.

The NIMBY says our cities are perfect exactly as they are. We know the NIMBY is wrong because we can’t be so lucky to have landed on exactly the right amount of parking.

Because we shouldn’t have less parking, and because it’s unbelievable that we have exactly the right amount of parking, our cities must need more parking.

We believe public parking is a public good.

Where should more parking come from? Unfortunately, the free market isn’t producing sufficient numbers of parking garages. We must demand more parking from our city governments.

Like public roads and public schools, public parking is required to make our society work. It’s clear our cities are failing if parents feel they need to send their children to private school. So why is it not a failing if people feel the need to park their cars on their own private land?
